Molecular findings and antibiotic-resistance in an outbreak of Acinetobacter baumannii in an intensive care unit.
We investigated an outbreak of Acinetobacter baumannii in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Rome, Italy. The outbreak involved 14 patients whose isolates were most frequently recovered from bronchoalveolar lavage. All isolates were multidrug-resistant and showed diminished susceptibility or resistance to carbapenems. A. baumannii strains with a similar antibiotic susceptibility pat...
متن کاملOutbreak of extensively drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii indigo-pigmented strains.
Acinetobacter baumannii pigmented strains are not common in clinical settings. Here, we report an outbreak caused by indigo-pigmented A. baumannii strains isolated in an acute care hospital in Argentina from March to September 2012. Pan-PCR assays exposed a unique pattern belonging to the recently described regional CC113(B)/CC79(P) clonal complex that confirms the relevant relationships among ...

Nineteen clonally related imipenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were recovered from eight intensive care unit patients. All isolates harboured bla OXA-51-like β-lactamase genes and showed the absence of 22 kDa fraction in outer membrane porin profile analysis. It suggests a combination of two mechanisms as responsible for carbapenem-resistant phenotypes.
متن کاملUse of interrepeat PCR fingerprinting to investigate an Acinetobacter baumannii outbreak in an intensive care unit.
An epidemiological investigation of an outbreak of Acinetobacter baumannii among patients on 2 closely related intensive care units (ICU) was performed by molecular typing with interrepeat polymerase chain reaction (interrepeat PCR). 31 A. baumannii isolates obtained from 15 ICU patients were characterized. All patients were infected or colonized with A. baumannii. After identification of the o...
متن کاملAcinetobacter baumannii
Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic bacterial pathogen primarily associated with hospital-acquired infections. The recent increase in incidence, largely associated with infected combat troops returning from conflict zones, coupled with a dramatic increase in the incidence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, has significantly raised the profile of this emerging opportunistic pathogen. ...
